reviews and anecdotes.

With school coming to an end, and summer rapidly coming our way... I have been extremely busy with classes and getting ready for finals and what not. On the bright side, I've got less than two weeks to go! Whoo! :) Anyway, I haven't been on here nearly as much as I'd like, but there are a couple things I'd like to touch upon while I have a little bit of down time.

First thing's first. Within the last couple months, I've recently had to switch over to a new mascara because the one that I'm completely in love with has been discontinued. No, it's not any fancy make up brand... it's actually drug store mascara, and I swear by the stuff! If you're anything like me and don't have the longest eyelashes in the world that go on forever... you'd absolutely love it. Sadly though, the company decided that it was best to go a different direction and replace it with another kind of mascara. In case you have no idea which mascara I'm talking about here, it's Maybelline Lash Stylist. I don't know what it is about it, but I was obsessed with it.

Contrary to their belief, I do not feel that it was a good move on their part. They've replaced it with Maybelline's new Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length mascara. Which I've tried, and I felt that it was an all around okay mascara none the less. It gave me a bit of length but not nearly as much as the lash stylist did. If you do more than maybe two coats, it begins to look clumpy and a tad bit messy quite frankly. If I were to rate this mascara out of 10, I'd probably give it a 6.5/7.

After they released the original Lash Stiletto mascara, they continued on with the idea and came up with Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara: Dramatic Length Meets Bombshell Volume. I went to the store to try and get the original but unfortunately they only had it in waterproof... which I for some reason have never been a huge fan of (it takes too long to get the stuff off!) So I went out on a whim and decided to try the "new and improved" version of the mascara that was already just okay in my book in comparison to the lash stylist. To put it bluntly, I was not impressed with the stuff at all. It offered some aspect of length but as for volume... it was not existent. I do not recommend this product if you are looking for a lot of length and a lot of volume!

If you're really wanting that dramatic effect to your eyes, my recommendation would be to use the original lash stiletto after applying a good volume mascara. It doesn't compare to the result that I got with my all time favorite, but it will get the job done. I'm really hoping that one of these companies will bring back that wand that I am crazy for.

Next, I have a recommendation of perfume that has just become another wanting of mine. I'm sure many of you either have it already or have at least heard of it. I purchased some products from Sephora not too long ago, and when I had it shipped to me they gave me the option of a few samples off their website. I for one, have never smelled Juicy Couture's "Couture Couture Spray". So I had a little bottle sample of it sent my way! I tried a little spray of it and it instantly struck my attention.

The smell lasts a long time and it comes in this gorgeous bottle. I checked out their website and as far as pricing goes.. it's a bit steep, but nothing that you wouldn't expect coming from juicy couture. 1.7 Oz bottle costs about $65.00 and a 3.4 Oz bottle costs about $85.00. If you are ever looking for a perfume to try out and have some extra money saved up, I would definitely recommend this product. It's a feminine and romantic scent, but it is wearable during both the day time and the night time. Go check it out!

make a difference.

So I'm sure that everyone is aware what TOMS shoes are, but if you aren't... you should visit their website and check it out. For every pair you buy, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. I just recently heard of them, even though they have been around for some time now, I'm sure. Anyway, I think the whole idea of them is really cool! I'll definitely be purchasing myself a pair of those bad boys :) It's an easy way to play a little part in doing something good! Go here for a little preview to see what they're all about:

Reading about this reminded me a little about the (RED) products that multiple companies had carried a couple years back. They were everywhere! I love buying products that somehow benefit someone else. I don't know, I just think the whole concept of it all is really neat. People don't realize how much they can help by doing something so simple and small. Many people feel that they can never make a difference.

keepin' busy!

Hello again

Okay so as of right now, I am currently stuck at home and on the couch because I caught some stupid cold. On the bright side though, reading blogs and creating my own has been an amazing distraction! :) Today has been pretty uneventful so far, given the circumstances... but it's given me a chance to start planning for summer time! I don't know about you, but i am READY for some of that warm weather and gorgeous sunshine.

Something about being out in the sun with nothing but blue skies above me gives me a sense of complete relaxation. I've been thinking about summer and all the things I want to do or all the things that I could do! I've come up with lists of things, considering the fact that once the summer is over, it's goodbye sunshine and hello umbrellas! (For anyone that doesn't already know, I'll be moving up to Oregon at the end of August for school) Anyway! Moving on. Because I've had a bunch of free time to myself, I've also been cruising the web and finding new desserts that I'd like to try and make sometime. For instance...

Eclairs

From: Martha Stewart's Pastry Recipes

Makes 30

Ingredients

  • Pate a Choux
  • Pastry Cream for Eclairs
  • Vegetable oil, for plastic wrap
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.with a rack in the center. Line two unrimmed baking sheets with parchment paper or Silpats (French nonstick baking mats).

2. Fill a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch (Ateco No. 806) tip with pate a choux batter; pipe out oblong shapes, about 3 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide, onto prepared baking sheets at 2-inch intervals. Gently run a fork dipped in water along each top, making straight lines to ensure even rising.

3. Cover one baking sheet with lightly oiled plastic wrap, and place in refrigerator. Transfer the second sheet to the oven. Bake 10 minutes; reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees. Bake until golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes more. Turn off oven; prop door open slightly to let steam escape. Allow eclairs to dry in oven until centers are damp but no wet dough remain (test by cutting into the center of one), about 15 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly. Raise heat back to 425 degrees and repeat process with remaining batch. If serving immediately, fill eclairs while still warm so they can take more cream; if filling at a later time, insert a skewer into one end, and move it around to expand opening for cream; set aside.

4. Transfer pastry cream to the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Beat until smooth and softened. Fill a pastry bag fitted with a coupler and filling tip (Ateco No. 230) with pastry cream. Insert tip into one end of each eclair; fill.

5. To make the glaze, heat cream in a small saucepan. Pour over chocolate in a small bowl. Let stand until chocolate is melted, stir until smooth. Dip top of each eclair into glaze; let excess drip off before turning over. Transfer to a wire rack to allow glaze to set. Serve, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 1 day.

4. Divide batter evenly among cups. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes.

5. Cool in tin on a wire rack for 10 minutes; turn cupcakes out, right side up, and cool completely. Meanwhile, make frosting. Using an offset spatula or butter knife, spread frosting on cupcakes. The frosted cupcakes are best eaten within 1 day.

Clearly, I must have a sweet tooth going on right now.

Many of which will reflect on my mood of the day, my daily inspirations, personal experiences, and hopeful possibilities.
